Founded by Irish immigrants in 1856, St. Patrick’s Parish grew alongside the industries and neighborhoods surrounding Racine’s Root River. The present church was designed by Chicago architect Barry Byrne, a former apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright, and completed in 1925.
Its unusual design blends soaring Gothic lines with modern Art Deco simplicity. Tall windows, slender pinnacles and a nearly square sanctuary distinguish it from traditional churches, earning St. Patrick’s a place on the National Register of Historic Places.
