Inside the rotating collector, guide vanes and flow passages are used to study how air can be organized after it enters the turbine. Instead of allowing the flow to become chaotic, the design attempts to shape the air into a more useful path.

An internal impeller or axial-flow stage can then be used to extract additional energy from the moving air. This creates an opportunity to study both rotational torque from the outer sail and internal flow-driven energy extraction in the same device.

Other areas of experimentation include magnetic gearing, rim-mounted generator pods, bearing friction, startup torque, air entrainment, ducting, flywheel effects, generator loading, and the relationship between airflow speed, rotor speed, and electrical output.

The project is intentionally experimental. Each prototype is a learning tool.
